Quiet affair

'Cause there is nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline no matter how many times it's sent away.  - Sarah Kay - The stars almost never shine, and the sky is always bright here. But the best way to chill after work is to spend a couple of days in a week to really lie down and gaze at the night sky despite all that. To distance yourself away from the crowd and to embrace silence and quietude. With the best of company. To walk to a nice park and lay down the mat by the lake, and to eat rich chocolatey cakes and oily, soggy fries. To fill the silence with basic catching up, to deeper conversations about life, to spazzing about the favourite lines and scenes from The Notebook, and back to comfortable silences. To feel the breeze seep into the bones and to enjoy the moment of tranquility with just the wind, the water, and to feel the body so close to nature, while lying on the ground. To watch the silhouette of the trees against the re...

Hot Chocolate

So I'm planted in Starbucks at One Fullerton with Aiman because we spontaneously decide to spend our day in starbucks with our laptops, good reads and nice cuppas. Perfect way of spending the day, there's an awesome view of the Integrated Resort, nice jazz music, and my lovely hot chocolate on such a chilly weather. And what made the day perfect is the fact that there are free drinks 5-7 pm! It's the time of the year again, folks. Totally my perfect idea of chilling, am loving the school holidays :D My list of things to watch: 1) The Big Bang Theory 2) HIMYM season 6 3) Gossip Girl 4) GLEE 5) Hana Yori Dango 2 6) My many many movies :D - So the past 2 days have been spent with my lovely girls. Went to watch 500 Days of Summer at Joy's, played Monopoly Deal and spent the evening at TWG, a totally tai-tai way of spending the night. But no doubt, the tea was good, I really think the appreciation of tea is an indication of how people grow up and acting like adults, hmmm. An...

School

Modules this semester: - Social Psychology - Paediatric Psychology - Learning and Conditioning - French 5 - Management and Organisation So tomorrow, or rather, later, will be the start of a new semester. Daym, Year 3 sounds so old. I'm feeling pretty apprehensive because some of the psych modules above are rather heavy. I am uber scared for French because this time round it is mostly about French literature which is something new and foreign to me. And that apprehension is futher aggravated upon seeing that my lecturer could be the same one I had 3 semesters ago. Not that he's bad, just that he always has tendencies to call my name whenever I was off-guard or wasn't prepared for answers, like all the time. Do you know how silly that looks? Imagine question marks all over my face while trying my best to form sentences in my head. Ok but thankfully because of him, I bucked up a lot and that probably contributed to why I'm still pursuing this language. So yeah, this is a c...

Work musings

My job involves keying in data, but what's more important are the details being keyed beneath this no-brainer job. In fact, it's saddening because I have to look through application papers for social assistance and financial help from mostly the broken families, or families with a deceased parent, or children with a parent serving his/her imprisonment, or abandoned kids born out of wedlock and whom their grandparents have to take reponsibilities for. It's even sadder to imagine these young children being exposed to such turmoil at the early stages of their lives. Anyway, before I get too attached to this, my newfound colleague just had me laughing throughout the whole afternoon so much that I had to suppress as much as I can from my usual laughing outbursts. After expressing how saddening some family situations are, she told me that she has seen even sadder cases as she worked in some social assistance centre before. And this was when the joke came in. She explained how she...

If it's not too late for coffee

Went out with the most dramatic person who I can dramatize the most comfortable with, and whom, despite meeting up very regularly, I still don't get bored of. And yes, Aishah indeed has an eye for details also when it comes to shopping so I love subjecting my choice of shopping items to her scrutiny for further assesments (LMAO). So today's awesome! We then proceeded to the new scape just for Once Upon A Milkshake just to get our yummy Cookies & Cream milkshakes (but the tanjong pagar's branch has better ambience), and then we bumped into a group of musicians and they were strumming/drumming/singing away to COPELAND! Yes, coffee! Sorry, but I just HAVE to put the lyrics. There's plenty of time left tonight I promised I'd have you home before daylight We do the best we can in a small town Act like big city kids when the sun goes down If it's not too late for coffee I'll be at your place in ten We'll hit that all night diner And then we'll see Ther...

There's always 1001 things to do

Now, I supposed most Singaporean bloggers will harp about the flood at Orchard Road. I shall skip that, although I'd like to add that I actually woke up this morning (11 am) feeling so good because the weather's nice. Little did I know for two hours there was a flood at Orchard Road and to think that such occurences are rarity. Ok I hope they would start doing something to the drainage system. Working at Media C. for 2 days was quite an experience, except that Aiman and I did nothing much on Sunday and we kind of did a million more things on Monday because we had ongoing tasks to do. Plus we've met exciting people and also, hmm, interesting people (of whom we secretly gave nicknames for us to refer to). I suddenly thought of The Devil Wears Prada and I actually wonder how the life of assistants are in this line of work, are they really treated like shit? Is that a part of climbing up the ladder in this career path? Ok random. The awesome thing is really to see how they swi...

Notes

1. Never ever walk with anything else but flats (and NOT wedges) when you're walking uphill with winding paths to an isolated, important place, that seemingly feels like 400m worth of distance. So I established that amongst all kinds of shoes, flats are totally made for me. 2. I ate the best cheese fries ever today after such a long time. 3. I love food, and it's not only because they taste good, but I like how some of them look and the whole presentation of it. The best part of it is how pretty they can actually look in pictures! 4. I rarely take the train, but when I do, I actually enjoy the rides (the un-peak hours of such rides). And each time I take the train, I would find myself wondering how long it would take to reach from one end to the other in another city (considering the fact that it only takes about at most 1.5 hours to do that here, in Singapore). 5. The thing is, I do feel like being in another city each time I imagine as such. 6. I love cozy cafes with beauti...

After so long

Hello world! I know that I've been gone for more than 3 weeks. I don't even have an entry on the last day of my exams but yeah! It's all over now and summer break's in! Even the exam results will be out in a week's time. To tell you the truth, I have no idea how exactly time flew for the past 3 weeks. But here's some: Nuurun has already been discharged and she's been doing good! I'm grateful that you made it through my dear. Strut with those nice shoes and your pretty shawl and we can go out again and enjoy the summer break! The usual, random socializing with people! Went to apply for volunteerism at IMH and Autism Partnership, we decided the latter and still waiting for confirmation if we can volunteer to work with the kids :) Was thinking that since I have free time, why not volunteer? But of course I need to get a job quick too. Had tuition marathons with tutee. 5 different tuition sessions but we're having one-week break for now. Hope he does wel...

Laissez les bons temps rouler

Some things just had to be mentioned! Like say, last Friday night I went out with a bunch of crazy french class friends. Initially I had been studying and then around dinnertime, these crazy wackos were going for dinner (and I was still contemplating). So this Nicolas&Amey went to find me just to convince me and they LIED to me so that I would go out with them, saying that it was Yvonne's 21st "birthday"! So I obliged ok mainly because I did want to have some fun before the reading week and also because of the birthday! It was only at Ben&Jerry's that I found out it was a prank! IT WASN'T ANYONE'S BIRTHDAY! Tsk LOL. THANKS MAN guys haha! But I did have so much fun! And I totally have to mention this incident! We squeezed seven people in the car (so there were 5 of us sardined at the back!). This reminded me so much of India because we squeezed it SIX people in the tiny, auto rickshaw a few times! Suffocating to the max hee. Anyway, during the ride, Nic...

The butter of my bread

Friday night was super, had dinner with the just-turned-21 Nuurun, with amey, alvin, adit and jessie. Then just like what we always do, went to chill at Arab Street. The Iced Mint Tea served at the place we went was really refreshing. Played another crazy game of charades! Smashin' good time with awesome company as always :) I took a rather small break this long weekend, getting amused by all these Ris Low issues and whatnots, watched movies at home, and just reading. You should watch Diner De Cons because it is so hilarious! It's regarding a group of friends who bring idiots for dinner and treat them as objects of mockery until one fine night, the biggest idiot of all screwed the day of the protagonist throughout the course of one day! What faddy said about French movies are right, they comprise loads of talking, very few locations/scenes but the movie quality is good! I just watched La Chevre also, this movie is rather old (but not ancient), it's about how a klutz helped ...

Holidays coming to an end, for now

Gosh, I totally lost track of days. It's Thursday and I'm still thinking it's the earlier part of the week. It's 18th February and I'm still thinking it's the earlier bit of February! This is nuts. Probably because I've been playing more than studying. And perhaps I'm avoiding the two-one subconciously. Anyway gathering at Alvin's was a blast. I'm really glad that I've made really awesome friends from french classes. I reckon we can probably just have a meet-up just because without any specific expectations or agenda, and we can make the most out of it, mostly by laughing and talking. We did those exactly on Tuesday. Heaps of fun. And then myself, nuurun, nicholas, amey, alvin & wangjue headed to Simpang Bedok and then Arab Street just to chill (again, I know) and we had crazy fun. We played Indian Poker (AMEY hasn't heard of the game before, ironic!) and then charades. Charades was the best because Amey finds it SO hard to do actions...

Samedi Soir!

Went to Alliance Francais to watch this French play (above) on Saturday night. Yeah the box that says 'English Subtitles' didn't really do justice because the only English subtitles were the translated summary of every scene. But I have to admit that without those, we (the non-French, yes the place was really filled with French) would die not fully understanding anything except comprehending from body language and anything within our capability to understand this really interesting, fast-spoken language. But overall it was okay. Contrary to how he looks like in the poster, no L'Avare isn't a horror show (my mom thought we went to watch a scary french play, but I wouldn't mind going for one in future lol). It's a familial show, mainly revolves around a miser who refuses to grant his children's wishes to marry because he is a one stingy man. Ok, what is MORE interesting, are really the events that happened after the show. So nuurun, alvin, amey and I wante...

Apres une semaine..

Some weekends can just be.. that. I love Wednesdays simply because of the lectures (cognitive and personality). Great lecturers we have. Personality's fun, can't believe the lecturer claimed himself not to be humourous when he could do unique extraordinary things that lighten up the atmosphere; like throwing his stuffed toy to the audience and whoever caught it had to answer questions (like filling in the blanks from his lecture notes) and randomly picking 5 names from the lecture group to do some personality ranking demonstration. We all freaked out, in a good way, lol. Met up with bala, lina & aishah on Wednesday. Was awesome meet-up, it was like taking a walk back to the memory lane because we were talking about all the things that happened in secondary school! Crushes, how some of them really made us swoon (geez), who's with who, charming-looking teachers (Mr R & Mr S!), the bi-atches of the school, hilarious antics (of Mr G & Mrs K), how we always slacked o...

The saboteur!

Last night was another good night. It felt like it was a well-deserved night before embarking on the usual mugging towards the finals (eek). So met up with the usuals and we did numerous activities until like really really early morning. Dinner at Pizza Hut at Vivo, went to Mount Faber and Henderson Waves after that, then headed to Swensens at Holland Village for ice-cream (because zab has free coupons for free ice creams, isn't it just awesome?!), wanted to catch 1 am movie, but missed the timing, so headed to BB macs which is nearer to most of our homes, and played this card game Aiman bought last week called 'Saboteur'. T'was seriously an addictive game and one of the most amusing things to see was the lengths we could go to plead and beg to be "unblocked". Damn funny game! Anyway R (I got influenced by your anonymity in your blogspots, haha sounds like gossip girl) I feel the same way about what you said! Like I'm totally grateful for the two Js and yo...

My energy bunnies

So yesterday, mugged the whole day at central library. And then met up with aiman & khai for late night supper at batok. Honestly, I'm amazed at the amount of energy I have to trudge along at 10:30 pm to see these two stooges. It's probably their company, tsk tsk (: Since each of us was dressed in red, green and yellow respectively, khai labeled us as traffic lights yesterday, ha! Banters with khai over food, endless random conversations, crow-like laughter, rants, the lamest jokes. Again, beyond-midnight walk from batok all the way to our houses. Almost perfectly empty roads. Screamed out names of our friends whose houses happened to be along the route we took. Simply awesome.

We did what we did that night

Indeed, I'd really kill to know how things are gonna turn out because some unprecedented things coming your way might kill you first. Is there any way of knowing? I'm really high on caffeine right now from khai's drink. Spent the night with the usuals and bestie at wheelock's starbucks, laughing and chilling. What's there not to love the long weekends before Tuesday when school starts? Ate, laughed way too much (there's no other way to justify this statement really), had pointless discussions on cheese which turned out really hilarious for the umpteen times we tried to explain how La Vache Qui Rit cheese looks like to Rauf, laughed at how "we did what we did that night" sounds totally wrong, played murderer paper game, "i have never", pictionary, seeing display of gorilla-like movements, and getting on khai's nerves in his brand new car. Tonight, or rather this morning, aiman and me coined a combined name for Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass ...
