In all your consciousness

Yes, do not let events ruin your day. This, should be everyone's mantra.

20 untranslatable words from all around the world

I just really wanna share this. Because I'm in love with languages and it's really nice to discover words that are capable of conveying their meanings without having to explain so much. - 1. Toska Russian – Vladmir Nabokov describes it best: “No single word in English renders all the shades of toska. At its deepest and most painful, it is a sensation of great spiritual anguish, often without any specific cause. At less morbid levels it is a dull ache of the soul, a longing with nothing to long for, a sick pining, a vague restlessness, mental throes, yearning. In particular cases it may be the desire for somebody of something specific, nostalgia, love-sickness. At the lowest level it grades into ennui, boredom.” 2. Mamihlapinatapei Yagan (indigenous language of Tierra del Fuego) – “the wordless, yet meaningful look shared by two people who both desire to initiate something but are both reluctant to start” (Altalang.com) 3. Jayus Indonesian – “A joke so poorly told and so unfu...

Union

I like to see people reunited, I like to see people run to each other, I like the kissing and the crying, I like the impatience, the stories that the mouth can’t tell fast enough, the ears that aren’t big enough, the eyes that can’t take in all of the change, I like the hugging, the bringing together, the end of missing someone. - Jonathan Safran Foer, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

The Intangibles

“The unreal is more powerful than the real. Because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it. Because its only intangible ideas, concepts, beliefs, fantasies that last. Stone crumbles. Wood rots. People, well, they die. But things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend, they can go on and on. If you can change the way people think. The way they see themselves. The way they see the world. You can change the way people live their lives. That’s the only lasting thing you can create.” - Chuck Palahniuk

Making lists

Let's play hopscotch in malls. Let's drive fast with the top down. Let's turn up the music as loud as it'll go. Let's put a couch on an island in the middle of the freeway and wave at everyone on their way to work. Let's hug strangers in parking lots. Let's hand out secret messages at traffic lights. Let's make lists of all the things that make us smile and tick them off, one at a time. The world will carry on without you and me when we're gone. Let it carry on without us, today. “All I ever want is to show you how much I love you. I want to take your hand in my hand. I want to show you the places I go so I can think and the movies I watch. I want to show you all of the things I’ve written. Or all of the photos I’ve taken. I want to show you how beautiful certain people are and just how great it is to be a weird little mess. I want to show you how to accept and even embrace how tragic things can get. I want to show you that it’s okay not to believe and it’s okay not to be afraid to die. I want to show you how to breathe slowly and feel your own heartbeat. I want to show you that I’m not like everyone else you meet, that I’m not worried about what they worry about. I want to show you just how thrilling it is to jump off of high surfaces and run with your eyes closed tight. I want to show you that it’s lovely walking in the rain, letting rain drops run over your exposed skin and feel them drip off the tip of your nose. I want to show you how much I love people an...

The Rise and Fall

And if you look a little closer, you'll see that if a person believes that life is terrible, they’ll constantly look for proof of this, to confirm their view of the world. They’ll find quotes and situations and events in their life and magnify them a hundred times. If a person believes that life is wonderful, they’ll look for the corresponding signage and behave in a similar manner to the previous person with their view of the world. Often, this is the same person on different days of the week. Source: I Wrote This For You
