My awesome recess/exam week

Awesome awesome awesome. Ok as many of you have guessed, my finals were over since last Friday, ending with social psych paper. I rather not talk about how my papers went, but more of how this semester went. I think school as of this year was rather happening (only intermittently of course, but very memorable), since predominantly, it's been filled with school shitloads. Last semester was great as I had numerous outings with ze french peeps and the nusha gang, this semester seems to lack of those since ze french gang flew off to France for exchange. But the best part about this sem is really the joy of learning although Dr Penney's midterm paper was a killer, french 5 seemed a little demanding, and MNO was just full of projects and time-consuming and the many projects and presentations I've had. But they were all awesome! Bottomline is, the equation will always be learning > studying, hands down. It may seem, on the surface, that I'm biased towards my own major, but there's really never a time when I wasn't marvelled with the things I learnt from Psychology. Epiphany FTW.

So moving on with the exciting things! Ok as some of you might not know, I'm a HUGE Harry Potter fan. My first HP book read was the Prisoner of Azkaban, although yes, I'm aware that it should have been the Sorcerer's Stone. So it was Rowling's 3rd book that got me intrigued and I began to start all over from book one. And as you may have read before, I managed to squeeze in some time amidst the busy mugging schedule right before the exams to watch The Deathly Hallows. And what can I say? I enjoyed it. Plus, I watched with a bunch of people who would make a joke OUT OF EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING. So with a heavy heart, we had to continue with our mugging routine and never did I know that we would exhibit our harry potter frenzy upon random strangers in the library.

Let me explain. I think I have to thank the strong winter in the north for making these exchange students flee to Singapore to escape the cold and enjoy the summer. Yes, they really think it's summer to the extent of how we witnessed the Frenchboys sashay-ed their asses off in Arts canteen with their sunglasses on. But anyway, the best part about the daily mugging in the central library was the people who have uncanny resemblances to DRACO MALFOY, BILL WEASLEY, CRABBE, RON WEASLEY, AND DUDLEY. Crazy I know. Me and the girls had a kick-ass time laughing over these. I think the person who resembled the most was the Draco Malfoy lookalike. It's like meeting the real Tom Felton, oh how I wish! The funniest thing is, the draco malfoy and bill weasley lookalikes are actually friends (they wouldn't be in the book)! So hands down, I had the best reading/studying week ever in the whole nus history.

And not to forget, my awesome girls who have made the studying period more bearable. Am so grateful for them :D

And to end my crazy recess/exam week shenanigans, let me share the Freudian slip I made about a week ago. Me and the girls were studying paediatric psych and it just happened that rui qi was reading a chapter on "Prematurity and Failure to Thrive" when Hazel texted me whether the french papers were on my french prof's desk to collect. So thanks to the materials from that chapter (mainly about the deaths of infants), I replied her this: "Yeap, you can collect your paper on his death." instead of desk. Holy sheesh, freudian slip to its max. Of course I didn't mean to curse my awesome french prof.

And oh, you should totally catch these movies:

This movie is highly disturbing but it's a very well-done movie. Kudos. I'm dying to watch the original Swedish version. I highly recommend people to catch this.

And for something light-hearted..

I AM IN LOVE WITH FLYNN RIDER.
Is there any way I can enter a cartoon?

Reclaiming my voice

It has been more than 2 years since I published anything on this blog. I have written a few reflections quite abit during this time, but they are mostly in draft versions, probably reflective of the scatteredness of my thought processes, or the ongoing engagement with the topic which has yet found a proper resolve (or is there ever a resolve really?), or just me finding mere words to articulate my thoughts that are waiting to be entertained and possibly verbalised or written. I'm driven to write this post precisely because I can't entirely ignore the nagging voice inside my head, telling me to use writing as a tool to not only express myself, but to reclaim my voice. It is such an insanely noisy world. The constant stream of information from different online platforms not only pull me from various directions, but it spreads my attention too thin that it is impossible to follow one stream of thought, sit on it for awhile, slowly reflect and if possible, articulate it. It is not ...

Information vs. Knowledge

“To know how to put what knowledge in which place is wisdom. Otherwise, knowledge without order and seeking it without discipline does lead to confusion and hence to injustice to one's self.” - Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas This week's key takeaway for me is that; knowledge requires knowing its proper order and place.  Everything else is just information.

Infinity

unbounded to any definitions or limits, existing but not adequately known. this entity, being constantly talked about, pulls like an unbeatable gravitational force. we are always approaching, almost touching, existing in tandem, still, not yet meeting Infinity the eventual meeting where there are no bounds
